ADI Part 2 - The Test of Driving Ability
Tony Phillips has an enviable record of gettiing people through their ADI Part 2 on their first attempt. The secret? It's all in the mind; get yourself in the right frame of mind and you should sail through.
The ADI Part 2 has three sections to it: eyesight, car safety/maintenance, and driving. Interestingly it’s the driving element that is the most challenging for most trainees.
Make sure you...
- Get some ADI Part 2 specific training with a specialist like Tony Phillips;
- Get plenty of quality practice time in between ADI Part 2 training sessions;
- Be consistent with your driving standard even when you're not practising for your ADI Part 2 test.
Make sure you do not...
- Think that because you're an experienced driver, you're good enough to pass your ADI Part 2. Even people that have passed the other civilian Advanced Driving Tests often fail the ADI Part 2;
- Go back to your old style of driving once you've finished your ADI Part 2 training session;
- Go to any Tom, Dick or Harry for your training. There are a great deal of people out there, including Driving Instructors that think they can train you for the ADI Part 2 properly, even though they're Driving Instructors. Go to the page showing Tony Phillips' qualifications and then see how many other Driving Instructors have achieved anywhere near what Tony has done.
The secret to ADI Part 2 success
Do you ever see other driving school cars being driven badly? Exceeding the speed limits, overtaking dangerously, following too close behind other vehicles, using a hand held mobile phone whilst driving etc? What impression are they giving everybody? Would you like your teenage children, friends, family members to learn to drive with that instructor? Do you think in fact, this is how you should drive to pass your ADI Part 2?
Think about how you would drive in a highly visible driving school car and what other drivers would think of you. If they could see that you were very courteous, considerate and safe would they consider taking your telephone number and calling you about teaching their teenage children?.
Good driving is all about attitude. A positive attitude towards how you deal with and negotiate hazards and driving situations with other drivers safely, competently, progressively and courteously is more than half the battle. Such is the importance of your mental approach I have written a whole article about ADI Part 2, defensive driving.
